Courses & Lectures

 I offer a range of courses, lectures and workshops specialising in freehand machine embroidery and related creative stitching techniques. Weekly courses offer an intensive exploration into the creative world of Machine Embroidery.

Get to know your sewing machine and use it as a drawing tool to create individual designs. One day workshops are on offer throughout the South East at:- Brighton, Sussex:- Puddleducks, Sevenoaks, Kent:- Making Space, Havant, Hampshire:- Sussex Guild Event Room, Southover Grange, Lewes, Sussex.

Residential courses are on offer at West Dean College, Chichester, West Sussex, and as a freelance tutor and lecturer, I travel nationwide, visiting groups and guilds. (see below for details of available courses)

                     MACHINE EMBROIDERED CHRISTMAS CARDS                                           Saturday 16th October 2010                           Create special cards for Christmas by combining applied fabrics and    threads with freehand machine embroidery

                 CREATIVE MACHINE EMBROIDERY FOR BEGINNERS                                         Saturday 5th January 2011                                                         Saturday 2nd April 2011                           Learn how to use a basic domestic sewing machine for freehand machine embroidery. Draw with your thread to create exciting textures and patterns.

                 MACHINE EMBROIDERED BOOK COVERS                                             Saturday 29th January 2011                           Enjoy a day making exciting designs for book covers. Pelmet Vilene will be decorated with fabrics, then worked into with freehand machine embroidery and made up into notebook covers.

                         ARCHITECTURAL DETAILS                                                                         Saturday 12th March 2011                                     Architecture is the source of inspiration for this course, doors, windows, arches are ideal starting points. Fabrics will be applied in layers to create backgrounds, which will be worked into with freehand machine embroidery.

                                         LAYERED LANDSCAPES                                       5th - 8th September 2010 Residential / non-residential

Freehand Machine Embroidery and other skills are explored and developed as you create unique designs inspired by the landscape. Fabrics will be applied in layers to create designs, which will be painted and worked into with freehand machine embroidery.

                                     ARCHITECTURAL TEXTURES                                     17th - 20th April 2011 Residential / non-residential

Architecture provides the inspiration for this course. Freehand Machine Embroidery and other skills are explored and developed as you create unique designs inspired by arctitecture. Fabrics will be applied in layers to create designs, which will be painted and worked into with freehand machine embroidery. Three dimensional textured effects will be incorporated in the work.

                       MACHINE EMBROIDERED GARDENS                                 Tuesday 14th September 2010       10am-4pm  £40              Herbaceous borders, window boxes, stone walls and garden pathways are all ideal starting points for this one day workshop. Simple painting techniques will be used to create background fabrics. Basic freehand machine embroidery will then be used to stitch unique garden designs.

                 MACHINE EMBROIDERED CHRISTMAS CARDS                             Tuesday 12th October 2010       10am-4pm  £40                  Design and create original machine embroidered greetings cards for your family and friends. Exciting surfaces will be created using layers of fabric and thread which will be worked into with freehand machine embroidery.

INSPIRED TO STITCH – LAYERED & TEXTURED LANDSCAPES

                           14 – 20 November 2010                                Enjoy a Machine Embroidery Course with sun, sea and sangria!!

    During the week you will explore ways of creating exciting effects with 3D textile mediums, layered fabric, paint and stitch.
